Texas attorney general asks court to reinstate abortion measure

AUSTIN, Texas (Reuters) - Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott on Tuesday asked an appeals court to immediately reinstate a provision of a new law restricting abortion that a lower court judge had ruled unconstitutional, according to a court filing.

The lower court ruling on Monday halted the enforcement of a new requirement that physicians who perform abortions have an agreement with a local hospital to admit patients, part of a sweeping new law restricting abortions that was set to go into effect on Tuesday. Abbott asked the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals to immediately overturn that ruling.
