The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is far from its commercial debut, but that hasn't stopped technology bloggers from reporting extensively about the device and the hardware it's expected to be equipped with. Among the many high expectations for the next-generation Note-series smartphone is the screen size, which has been a selling point of the previous two iterations of the Note series. Technologists also have very high expectations for the upcoming smartphone's hardware.

The Galaxy Note 3 is expected to be equipped with a 6.3-inch display, which is significantly larger than the 5.5-inch display on the Galaxy Note 2. "The world's biggest technology company has been developing the Galaxy Note III with a 6.3-inch screen using an OLED display, according to officials from a local parts suppliers, while the company will start the first commercial sale of 55-inch OLED TVs from late next year," reported the Korea Times, which has a strong history of getting leaked information correct.

In addition to the screen-size speculation, the Galaxy Note 3 is expected to be equipped with Samsung's eight-core Exynos Octa processor that was debuted at CES.

"Two sets of quad-core processors. In a phone. Crazytown. They use ARM's big.LITTLE architecture, which is like having an automatic switch for flipping between performance and energy efficiency. It's very slick. Like everyone else who released a mobile processor this week, Samsung claims it's the fastest and most energy-efficient mobile processor in the world, boasting a 70 percent increase in battery life. We shall see," reported Brent Rose of Gizmodo?shortly after Samsung announced the new processor.

Samsung claims that the Exynos 5 Octa processor uses 70 percent less power than a typical quad-core Cortex A15 processor, and that it will also increase the battery life of devices. The processor is said to be significantly better than the one included in the Nexus 10 Android Jelly Bean tablet.

Beyond the processor and screen size, very little is known about the Galaxy S3. Google is expected to launch Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie?sometime this year, but it's still unclear when exactly the company would do that. It's safe to say that Google typically reserves Nexus-branded smartphone launches for the unveiling of a new version of Android. Still, with so much power, and given the popularity of the original Note and the Note 2, there's a strong chance that the Galaxy Note 3 will be updated regularly by Samsung and other developers.

The Galaxy Note 3 release date is still uncertain, but many expect that Samsung will unveil the device at Mobile World Congress later this year. Until the company makes an official announcement, however, it's hard to tell exactly what Samsung has planned for 2013.
